Slack
Messages in the channels you link become memory. SeamTrail works as a bot, and changes arrive by webhook.
Status: Available.
What SeamTrail reads
- Messages in the Slack channels linked to a feature.
- Decisions, blockers, risks, questions and ticket numbers become memory. Short chit-chat is skipped.
- Private channels only after you invite the SeamTrail bot. That is Slack's rule.
How changes arrive
- Webhook. Slack sends new messages to SeamTrail as they are posted.
Permissions
SeamTrail works only as a bot. It never asks for a personal Slack token.
| Permission | Why SeamTrail asks for it |
|---|---|
channels:read, groups:read | List public and private channels, so you can pick one to link. |
channels:history, groups:history | Read messages in the channels you link. |
channels:manage, groups:write | Create a channel for a feature, and add the feature's people to it. |
channels:join | Join a public channel when you link it. |
chat:write | Post the daily digest, when a feature turns it on. |
im:write | Send a person a direct message, for example when their decision was replaced. |
users:read, users:read.email | Match Slack members to SeamTrail people by work email. |
Connect
- Open your org's Settings → Tools.
- Next to Slack, click Connect. (Org Admins and Managers.)
- Approve the SeamTrail app in your Slack workspace.
Nobody needs a personal Slack login. When you link or read a channel, SeamTrail checks that you are a member of it, by your work email.
A channel for each feature
A feature can have its own Slack channel. SeamTrail suggests one: create a new channel, or link one you already have.
People added to the feature are added to its channel too.
Good to know
- Linking a private channel shares what SeamTrail learns from it with everyone on the feature, even people who are not in the channel. SeamTrail warns you first.
- SeamTrail does not post drift to your channels.
