Google Chat
Google Chat works like Slack — link a group space to a feature, and what is said there becomes its memory. SeamTrail never reads direct messages.
Early access
Google Chat works like Slack: the SeamTrail app in your group spaces.
What it does
- Memory: what people say in a group space linked to a feature becomes that feature's memory, like a Slack channel's messages. When you link a space, SeamTrail reads its last week first.
- Your people: everyone on the feature is added to the feature's spaces.
- A space for a feature: a feature's Admins and Managers can create a new space for it, with its people, in one step.
- Notes to a person: when someone needs to know something (for example, a decision of theirs was replaced), SeamTrail can send them a direct message from the app, if Slack is not connected.
What it never does
- It never reads direct messages — between people, or to the app. If you write to the app directly, it only answers with where to go; what you wrote is not kept.
- It reads only the group spaces it has been added to, and only once a space is linked to a feature in SeamTrail.
Set it up
- Your Google Workspace admin installs the SeamTrail app for your company (Google Workspace Marketplace), and approves its access once.
- An org Admin or Manager opens Settings → Tools → Google Chat → Connect. There is no sign-in: the app works as itself.
- Add the SeamTrail app to a space in Google Chat.
- In the feature, click + Add → Google Chat space, and pick the space. You can link only a space you are in.
How it works
- SeamTrail reads linked spaces every few minutes.
- The app has its own access, approved by your Workspace admin: post in spaces it is in and send a person a note (
chat.bot); read a space's messages, create spaces and add people (chat.app.messages.readonly,chat.app.spaces,chat.app.memberships). - SeamTrail never asks anyone for their own Chat permissions, which could reach their private chats.
Not yet
- The daily digest and drift alerts still post to Slack only.
- The agent does not answer inside Chat (it does not in Slack either): ask it in SeamTrail or in your AI assistant.
